The National Library of Medicine (NLM), the world’s largest medical library and a component of the National Institutes of Health, has been named a strategic advisor to the Medical Heritage Library (MHL) Digital Collaborative. The MHL is a digital curation collaborative among some of the world’s leading medical libraries, initiated in 2009 by the Open Knowledge Commons to digitize many of the world’s great historical medical books. Use of social media in the face of disasters has added another facet to disaster assistance and information. The staff at the national Red Cross is reviewing their recent survey and finds that Facebook is the fourth most frequent site uses as a means of obtaining emergency information after traditional broadcast sites. Three out of four individuals expect assistance to arrive within the hour after they have posted a message for help in a disaster.

Karen Wells, Manager and Reference Librarian, at Medical Library Services, Exempla Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, has been named recipient of the 2011 Marla Graber Award.
The Marla Graber Award for Excellence and Achievement is awarded annually by the Colorado Council of Medical Librarians (CCML). Established in 2002, the Graber Award recognizes the career of a CCML member who has made outstanding contributions to CCML and to health sciences librarianship at the local level.
Karen, a member of CCML since 1982, has worked in areas of both hard and applied sciences, as well as law and medicine. CONCLUSIONS  Despite the development of many isolated educational interventions, few have been tested rigorously or evaluated under sufficient
standardized conditions to allow for quantitative comparison. Improved and rigorously tested skin cancer educational interventions
for PCPs with outcome measures focusing on changes in performance are needed.
