More young physicians are entering the workforce than previously thought while fewer older physicians are remaining active, making the physician workforce younger on average, both now and in the future, a recent study of census data showed.

The pandemic influenza A(H1N1) virus may reach its shedding peak within the first 3 days after symptoms appear, but individuals could still spread the disease after a week, based on confirmed and suspected cases at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Thiopurines for IBD: Benefits Outweigh Risks, Study Shows

Patients who receive thiopurines for inflammatory bowel disease are at increased risk for lymphoproliferative disorders, but the overall incidence is low and the benefits of treatment for IBD still outweigh the risks, according to data from more than 19,000 adults published in the online Lancet Oct. 18.
FDA Approves Gardasil for Young Men and Boys

The Food and Drug Administration has approved the drug Gardasil for boys and men aged 9-26 years, to prevent genital warts associated with the human papillomavirus, according to an Oct. 16 statement from the drugs manufacturer, Merck & Co. An FDA press officer confirmed the approval.

Chest radiographs are most often normal in patients presenting with pandemic A(H1N1) influenza, but can rapidly progress to extensive, bilateral air-space disease in severely ill patients, a retrospective study has concluded.
