Budget Chief Pegs Health Reform Cost at Nearly $1 Trillion

WASHINGTON (EGMN) The Obama Administration is estimating that health care reform will cost at least $800 billion to $900 billion over the next 5-10 years and is prepared to put up budget cuts and revenue increases to cover that cost, said Peter Orszag, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget on June 9.

Supplements of antioxidants and zinc plus higher dietary intakes of docosahexaenoic acid or eicosapentaenoic acid and a reduction in the dietary glycemic index protect against progression to advanced age-related macular degeneration, according to an analysis of 8 years of data from the Age-Related Eye Disease Study.

Ofatumumab, a new monoclonal antibody that targets B cells, may eventually emerge as a first-line drug for previously untreated patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, said the primary U.S. investigator of the drug.

Medical Library Association Scholarship for Minority Students

A scholarship for up to $5,000 will be granted to a minority student who is entering a Masters program at an ALA-accredited library school or has yet to finish at least one half of the program’s requirements in the year following the granting of the scholarship. African American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, or Pacific Islander American individuals who wish to study health sciences librarianship are eligible.
Deadline for applications is December 1.
