The World Health Organization has raised its pandemic alert level to 5, indicating sustained human-to-human transmission of the virus in at least two countries (Mexico and the United States) in one WHO region. The change was announced on April 29.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is taking bold steps on the ongoing swine influenza outbreak, including developing a vaccine and trying to determine what factors produce more severe infections, Dr. Richard Besser said on April 28 during the agencys daily press briefing on the outbreak.

The 86% rate, which was the average of the 10 networks, surpassed the target set by the American College of Cardiology Door-to-Balloon (D2B) Alliance in 2006, pointed out Dr. Ivan Rokos, an emergency physician at the University of California, Los Angeles-Olive View Medical Center, Sylmar, and his associates.
